In 1951, and based on a decision made by the second session of the conference of the Arab chambers in Beirut at the 16 th of December 1951, the General Union of the chambers of commerce، industry and agriculture of the Arab States was founded It was the first Arab economic enterprise that works on the non governmental level.The aims behind the foundation were to support development، and achieve the economic integration through trying to coordinate the political، social and economic development.
From the beginning, the union tried to support cooperation and achieve the economic integration among the Arab States. It had mange activities and meetings and studies concerning the community of business men, and the Arab economic thought.
The Union could achieve mange things in different fields, some of these a achievements had political and cultural effects.
